Google previously announced a massive Android Wear update to version 5.1.1 that added a number of new features, such always-on applications, the ability to draw emoji in response to incoming messages, a new way to access apps and contacts, and WiFi support to the platform.
However, at the time, the features were limited to the LG Watch Urbane. On Google’s product forums, the company announced the 5.1.1 update has begun expanded to additional devices, and that the Moto 360, Sony Smartwatch 3 and Samsung Gear Live will benefit from the new WiFi features.
Google notes “the release will roll out gradually in the coming days and weeks” and in order to receive it you must be running the latest version of the Android Wear app on your phone. We’re already hearing reports that the LG G Watch and G Watch R have begun receiving the update.
When this update arrives on your smartwatch, to enable Wi-Fi support you will need to open Android Wear app on your phone >> Settings >> Cloud sync >> Turn on.
