Beck Taxi rolls out mobile payments for Android, iOS and BlackBerry

While Toronto’s politicians fight against Uber and the ride-sharing economy, Beck Taxi, one of the city’s oldest taxi dispatches, is trying to forge ahead. The company today rolled out an update to both its iOS and Android app. It says it has also made the update “accessible for BlackBerry 10 users” (i.e., BB 10 users will need to use the Android app).

Beck has also brought itself into the 1990’s by finally making it possible for all cabbies to accept cab fares via credit card. Not content to stop there, the app now accepts PayPal payments, as well. Users will simply need to enter their credit card information once they download the app.

The company says that paying through its mobile app will save approximately about 60 seconds off each ride, and also help ease traffic congestion. In addition, the app shares a striking resemblance to Uber’s app in that users can rate each ride, see fare estimations and save their favourite locations.

Beck says that “minutes are everything to Torontonians, and we are committed to continuing to provide transportation solutions that support our city’s commuters and get people where they need to go faster.”
