Being on the bleeding of Android usually involves going with a Nexus device, but if there’s a company out there that has been doing a great job of keeping its Android devices up to date, it’s Sony.
There have been reports of many of the company’s older devices, including the Xperia ZL, Z Ultra and Tablet Z, being upgraded to Android 5.0.2 in an over the air update.
We spoke with a Sony spokesperson to find out whether those updates were making their way to Canada. They told us that most Canadian Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Tablet Z devices should have already received the update to Lollipop. Previously, Lollipop was only available on the company line of Z1, Z2 and Z3 smartphones.
According to the same spokesperson, remaining Z series devices, including the ZL, will receive the update in the coming weeks, so if you own one of those smartphones, keep an eye out for a notification prompting you to upgrade.
Labelled 10.6.A.0.454, the download should come in at about 700 megabytes.
The influx of updates may not stop there either. According to Android Police, several Xperia Z3 smartphones have been spotted sporting Android 5.1.1, which means that at the very least the Z3 and Z3 Compact will receive an upgrade to the latest and greatest version of Android.
