Considered one of the Five Pillars of Islam, Ramadan is observed by more than one billion Muslims around the world. For almost 30 days, adult Muslims are expected to fast during the day, stopping to eat and drink only once the sun has set.
To help mark the start of the holy month, which began on Thursday, Google has launched a Ramadan Companion webpage. Easily viewable on a desktop or mobile device, the webpage provides information on sunrise and sunset times, and includes recipes, suggestions on local restaurants to check out, as well as useful YouTube videos. There’s also a planning page that has tips on how to, for instance, stay healthy while fasting. All information is conveniently organized using Google’s cards system.
This year, Ramadan goes until July 17.
