Apple’s breakneck release schedule for the developer beta of iOS 9 continues the trend from past years, with a new version showing up today, just two weeks after the WWDC keynote. This is the second beta of iOS 9, and as in previous years, it contains a number of stability improvements and interface tweaks. If you are a developer, or your friend is and you’re adventurous enough to try the beta, here’s what you can expect to find in this update.
The podcasts app, which has gotten a big redesign for iOS 9, comes with a new bolder icon and some elements in the app have also moved around. The app itself looks very similar to the new music app first seen in iOS 8.4, which will be coming out next week on June 30. The updatedĀ iPad keyboard features new undo/redo buttons that are replaced by cut and copy buttons when text is selected.
iOS 9 features a new 3D multi-tasking app switcher, and the second beta brings Continuity back to the multi-tasking interface, similarĀ to where it appeared in iOS 8. Another big feature Apple put in place in the first beta of iOS 9 gives you the optionĀ to delete and reinstall some apps automatically when an update is available. Many users, especially those on 16 GB iDevices, complained about the size of the iOS 8 update, so this is another interesting way to let more users complete updates without manually making space on the device.
There are also a huge number of smaller tweaks and fixes only eagle-eyed developers will notice, in addition to the usual battery life improvements and stability improvements that come after the firstĀ iOS beta each year. DevelopersĀ can download the update from Apple’s Developer Portal, and users will have to patiently wait until September to get their hands on all the best iOS 9 and Apple has to offer.
