The Samsung Gear VR is coming to Canada on July 17, Samsung today announced.
Made in partnership with Oculus VR and compatible with the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, Samsung’s latest virtual reality headset will be sold for $249.99.
Starting today, Canadians can pre-order the device from BestBuy.ca. On July 17, Gear VR will be available to purchase online from BestBuy.ca and at various Samsung Experience Stores. The latter are Samsung dedicated kiosks that are located within various Best Buys across Canada.
“We are thrilled to bring our innovative Gear VR Innovator Edition for S6 to Canadian consumers,” said Paul Brannen, Samsung Canada’s executive vice president of mobile solutions, in a prepared statement. “We’re excited to work with the developers, content creators, partners to lead the mobile VR revolution in Canada.”
In United States, the Samsung Gear VR has been available to purchase since May 8, and both this latest version of the Gear VR and its predecessor have been well received. Despite superficial similarities to Google Cardboard, one differentiating factor is that the Gear VR comes with a head tracking module that is said to help make for a better virtual reality experience.
