The Safety Information System (SIS) by Metrac is meant to be a sexual assault warning system. The program, funded by the City of Toronto and supported by Toronto Police, is currently in development with a release scheduled for the fall.
According to Metrac, SIS will provide information about sexual violence including rapes, sexual assault and sexual harassment in one’s area. A mobile app will be available on iOS and Android, while users can also opt to receive alerts through text messages, voicemails, emails, or Facebook and Twitter.
In addition to alerts, the program will also include police-issued crime notifications, tips to prevent violence, safety-related events, and reading materials on reducing violence in one’s community.
The goal is to help stop the violence before it begins. The organization is seeking early adopters to test the initiative before its launch.
