Oculus, Facebook’s acquired VR company, is partnering with Montreal-based Felix & Paul Studios for a multi-project, multi-experience production deal.
Felix & Paul Studios will be producing a series of VR experiences through the Oculus platform on the Oculus Rift, launching in early 2016, and the Samsung Gear VR for the Galaxy S6. The experiences will be written, directed, and produced by Felix & Paul Studios.
“We believe in virtual reality’s profound potential as an art form and storytelling medium,” said Felix Lajeunesse, co-founder of Felix & Paul Studios. “Our studio’s objective is to create content of the highest quality — both artistically and technologically — and to expand the boundaries of what can be expressed through the medium.”
Lajeunesse and Paul Raphaël have created and directed immersive cinematic experiences for years, and the directors have embraced VR as the next medium in storytelling. The pair has produced both original content developed by Felix & Paul Studios, and have worked in collaboration with industry leaders like artists and Hollywood studios.
“Oculus is incredibly excited by the artistry and entertainment made possible by the rapidly expanding world of 3D 360 VR moviemaking. Signing a multi-project deal with Felix & Paul Studios, a fantastically talented team at the forefront of both the artistic and technical aspects of this nascent art form, allows Oculus to deliver a variety of experiences to its Gear VR and Rift users at launch and thereafter,” said Jason Rubin, head of studios at Oculus. “It takes but a moment inside one of Felix & Paul’s films, to understand that these are experiences like no other.”
