Microsoft released its Q4 financial results today, and, as expected, the results were not good.
Despite an operating revenue of $22.2-billion, Microsoft recorded a $2.1 billion loss. Much of this has to do with the company’s previously announced $7.5 billion write-down of the assets it had purchased from Nokia in 2013.
That said, it’s not all bad news for the Redmond-based company. Tablets sales were the company’s big winner, as revenue generated by the Microsoft’s family of Surface tablets rose this quarter by 117 per cent to $888 million. Additionally, despite stiff competition from the Sony and its PS4 console, Xbox revenue increased by 27 per cent. Even Bing, Microsoft’s search engine, showed positive results.
With the impending release of Windows 10 on the horizon, Microsoft’s financials are sure to improve, though that’s little consolidation for the almost 8000 people that lost their jobs earlier this month.
