Moto X 2014 users can begin looking forward to an Android 5.1 update over the next few weeks. We already reported that Telus planned to update the device to Android 5.1 on July 18th, but that date came and went without any satisfaction.
Turns out that Motorola is taking things a little slower than anticipated, opting for a smaller soak test with a few hundreds devices before hitting the general public. A Motorola representative wouldn’t give me a definitive timeline for the wider rollout, but if all goes well it should be within the next few days.
Much like the Nexus 6’s Android 5.1 update, the Moto X will benefit from all the bug fixes and performance improvements of the new Lollipop version, as well as a small number of improvements to the UI, including better ownership over one’s volume controls, and an improved Quick Settings menu.
According to one of our readers, the build is LPE23.32-48.1, which is slightly newer than the Android 5.1 version that recently rolled out to Moto X Pure Edition users in the U.S. The Canadian soak test is available for all versions, including those sold at Wind and Telus.
With another Moto X likely coming next week, we’re interested to see what the now-Lenovo owned company has in store for this year.
