With the exception of the Xperia M4 Aqua, which just became available on Rogers, Canada hasn’t seen many Sony mobile devices in the past little while. The Japanese company’s Canadian branch announced at the start of the month that the Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4 tablet will not be coming to Canada. Likewise, it’s unlikely we’ll see the C5 Ultra and M5 anytime soon.
All that just means that the only Sony handsets Canadians have to look forward to are the Z5 and Z5 Compact.
While neither phone has a release date yet—they haven’t been officially announced, after all—they’ve been leaked before. In fact, the Z5 just started making the Internet rounds again. This time in a promotional image that comes courtesy of Dutch website TechTastic. Unsurprisingly the Z5 Compact looks a lot like its predecessor, the Z3 Compact, a phone we liked very much.
Earlier in the month, two different sources reported that the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact will both feature a new power button that doubles as a fingerprint sensor. Unfortunately, the angle at which the Compact is presented in this latest image makes it impossible to verify if it includes the feature.
TechTastic also doesn’t mention anything in the way of specs.
Sony is expected to announce both phones at IFA in Berlin, Germany. The long running tech conference and trade show starts in a couple of short weeks, on September 4th. Several other companies, including Samsung and Acer, are also expected to announce new devices.
