Have you ever looked at your smartphone and wished it had a “ticker” display above its standard screen? No? Well, LG is rumoured to be developing a device designed to fill this non-existent void.

According to popular and frequently reliable smartphone device leaker Evan Blass, LG is preparing to release a new smartphone that seems surprisingly similar to Samsung’s disappointing Continuum, a variant of the Galaxy S exclusively available from Verizon back in 2010.
Blass says the smartphone will come equipped with a 5.7-inch 2,560 x 1,440 screen, Snapdragon 808 CPU, 3GB of RAM, expandable memory, back fingerprint scanner and a 16 megapixel rear/5 megapixel front-facing camera. If you look closely at the leaked images of the device, the thin outline of an additional screen running across the top of the device is clearly visible.
It’s still unknown exactly what the ticker screen will be used for, but possible use cases may include a dedicated launcher that operates very similar to the Galaxy S6 edge’s curved side. The additional screen real-estate could also be used exclusively for notifications.
But don’t get excited just yet, it’s unclear if this mysterious “ticker” smartphone actually exists, or if it will even make its way to North America.
