Canadian-made apps updated to take advantage of new iOS 9 features

iOS 9 dropped today and now we’re finally getting our first taste of apps designed to take advantage of the operating system’s new features.

In terms of Canadian applications, many of the first iOS 9 supported apps are coming from news publications like CBC Sports, CBC News, Toronto Star’s new tablet app and La Presse+, although popular social media aggregation platform, Hootsuite, and Instagram-like high-resolution photo sharing social network, 500px, are also set to take advantage of the OS’s new features. More Canadian developed apps are surely to follow over the next few days.

The most signficant feature added to iOS 9, at least when it comes to iPad, is the ability to split-screen multitask, giving users the ability to have two applications open at the same time through picture in picture.

The new operating system is also set to bring improved battery life, a more proactive Siri that anticipates user needs (similar to Google Now), as well as the support of drawing doodles within supported apps, thanks to the Apple Pencil announced last week during the company’s keynote.

Below is a list of some of the top Canadian apps updated to support iOS 9:
