Rogers has tried and failed to launch a long-awaited feature alongside the release of Apple’s newest mobile operating system, iOS 9.
Rogers confirmed last week it would release the feature alongside iOS 9, a story that MobileSyrup broke in August. Rogers originally planned to bring the feature to iOS 8 when Apple added broad compatibility for it, but chose to delay until this year for unknown reasons.
Available to Fido and Rogers users alike, WiFi Calling is enabled after a small Carrier Settings Update, which users should have received upon first boot of the new operating system.
After installing the necessary updates and satisfying those conditions, Rogers and Fido customers (myself included) discovered that WiFi Calling was still spitting an error when enabled. According to a Rogers customer service representative, there is a problem enabling the feature in the company’s system, preventing it from being enabled across its entire customer base. The rep couldn’t comment on when the issue would be resolved, other than to say “We’re working on it now.”
When reached for comment, a Rogers representative confirmed that the company’s WiFi Calling outage was affecting “some, not all customers at the moment.”
