Is this real consumer demand or an artificial shortage?
The Lumia 950 XL is no longer listed as “for sale” on Microsoft’s U.S. and Canadian online store. A “coming soon” notifier now sits beside the device with no specific ship date attached to it. Earlier this week the Lumia 950 XL was listed as available in Microsoft’s online Store.
Microsoft’s new Windows 10 devices, the Lumia 950 XL and Lumia 950, went up for pre-order on Monday with initial shipments expected to arrive on November 25. Some shipments were then pushed back to December 11, but it looks like Microsoft has been unable to keep up with demand for the smartphone and has run out of stock.
The 5.2-inch Lumia 950 is still available for purchase on Microsoft’s Canadian store but the smartphone is asbsent from Microsoft’s U.S. store. Customers can sign up to be emailed when the phone becomes available.
In Canada, Microsoft’s unlocked Lumia 950 smartphones are only sold at the company’s official store and not through carrier partners. We’ve reached out to Microsoft for an estimate of when the Lumia 950 XL will be in stock again.
Windows Phone currently has a 2.5 percent share of the total smartphone market.
