At the sixth annual 2015 Canadian Video Game Awards in Toronto on Sunday, Square Enix Montreal took home top honours in the iOS game category for Lara Croft Go, a well-received mobile adaptation of the Tomb Raider franchise.
Noteworthy iOS nominees included Don’t Starve: Pocket Edition, Hitman: Sniper, Lara Croft Go, and Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath. Lara Croft Go also won the best mobile game award at the Game Awards last week in San Francisco.
And the accolades continued for Square Enix Montreal, winning the top technology award for Hitman Sniper, another console-to-mobile adaptation that hones in on the Hitman franchise’s core mechanic, assassinations.
In other mobile related awards, I Love Potato, a game developed by the National Film Board of Canada through a partnership with Minority, the developer of Papo & Yo and upcoming VR title, Time Machine, won the award for best social/casual game.
Beenox’s Skylanders SuperChargers Racing was selected as best game on the go, a hybrid category that encompasses all mobile gaming platforms, including the Nintendo 3DS. Klei Entertainment’s Don’t Starve Pocket Edition, took home the award for best sound with song D. R. Style (Vinyl).
On the console side of things Ubisoft Quebec took home the game of the year award for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt won the award for fan choice best international game.
