Microsoft pulls recent Windows 10 Mobile update due to technical issues

Lumia 950

The latest update to Windows 10 Mobile, build 10586.29, has been pulled temporarily.

Microsoft says it made the decision to kill the update because it has been causing a host of problems. Some users have seen repeated “Low Storage” notifications while attempting to install the update, while others have seen their installation get stuck at zero percent. In some cases, some users have even reported the download not appearing on their phone at all.

However, the majority of Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL owners have reportedly been able to to install the update with few issues. It seems the issues mentioned above have only affected a small segment of users, though the problem is widespread enough that Microsoft has been forced to act on it.

The company posted the following statement about the update’s issues on the official Microsoft Answers Forum:

We are aware of issues related to the recently published Windows 10 Mobile update, including: update not being offered, update appearing to get stuck at 0%, and pesky low storage notifications. The team is working on fixes and improvements to the upgrade experience in the short term and with future releases. In the meantime, we have unpublished the 10586.29 update for Windows 10 Mobile from our public update servers while we work through these reports.

For those of you who still see the low storage notification: while bothersome you can safely ignore this message.

For those of you who still have pending updates (OS or apps): make sure to plug your phone into a charger and leave untouched while it works through those items.

Microsoft plans to re-release the update at some point in the near future.
