Toronto continues to be one of Uber’s favourite markets for launching new products.
The latest from the bits and atoms ride-sharing company is a door-to-door service aimed at helping low mobility and elderly people get around town. Today at 3PM, Uber will go live with uberASSIST.
The cost of using uberASSIST is the same as the company’s uberX service. The added bonus, however, is that drivers will help a customer get in and out of their vehicle.
Only individuals with a 4.7 or higher driver rating can operate a vehicle for the service. Moreover, each one needs to complete an in-person educational session on accessibility awareness, how to fold and unfold a wheelchair and on how to guide an individual with a visual impairment.
To request an uberAssist vehicle, move the app’s bottom slider to “ACCESS” and then select uberASISST. Friends and family members can request an uberAssist on behalf of someone, as well as note special pickeup instructions.
