Google launched the developer preview of the next version of Android, currently known as Android N.
Hiroshi Lockheimer, head of Android, Chrome OS and Chromecast at Google, stated on Medium that the “final N release to device makers this summer.” This means the new OS will ship to manufacturing partners and possibly out to Nexus devices in the coming months — it must be acknowledged that the summer ends on September 21st.
In addition, Google stated there are now over 1.4 billion Android users and it works with over 400 OEMs and 500 carrier partners.
Lockheimer also dropped a hint about the possible name of Android N, specifically, “the burning question that’s on everyone’s mind: what will the N release be named? We’re nut tellin’ you yet.”
Nutella? Nuts? Nougat? Nacho Cheese? Nestle Crunch (following the KitKat partnership)?
