Coming off its 10th birthday, Twitter has unveiled an enhancement to its platform that makes it easier for those with visual impairments to access the service.
Twitter noted that images, not just GIFs, are a big part of the experience and effective today, it has given iOS and Android users the option to add a description, also known as alternative text (alt text), to images within the Twitter timeline.
“We’re excited to empower our customers and publishers to make images on Twitter accessible to the widest possible audience, so everyone can be included in the conversation and experience the biggest moments together,” said Twitter in a blog post.
To add this feature, an “add description” button will appear on the left-hand side of the image, tap it and include a summary of what is being shared. Twitter notes that the description has a 420 character limit.
