At Microsoft’s Build 2016 developer conference, the company announced that the development version of the company’s untethered virtual reality headset is set to ship today, March 30th, to enterprise customers.
The current developer version of HoloLens ships with a sleek carrying case and a clicker designed to navigate the headset’s user interface.
As part of a promotional video, Microsoft also revealed that it selected a space exploration app called Galaxy Explorer out of a pool of 5,000 ideas, as one of its first official HoloLens titles. Other HoloLens experiences shown off during the keynote include a project being developed by NASA and Microsoft that utilizes HoloLens to assist and guide crew on the International Space Station.
Microsoft also revealed that HoloLens’ development source code is currently available on Github. Galaxy Explorer is currently available on Microsoft’s app store.
HoloLen’s development kits went on sale last month to qualified developers in the U.S. and Canada at a price point of $3,000 USD. It’s still unclear when the consumer version of the device will be released, though it’s likely years away from landing on store shelves.
