BlackBerry Priv owners who signed up for their device’s Android Marshmallow beta test have started to receive the latest version of Google’s operating system, according to a notice sent out by BlackBerry.
The Waterloo-based company sent the following note to an initial batch of beta testers earlier this week.
Thanks to those who signed up for the PRIV beta, we are starting a small software rollout today and will expand by tomorrow!

“Some participants will start to receive Marshmallow software tomorrow (Wednesday, EST),” says the notice obtained by 9to5Google. “We will take a similar approach to how we brought people into the program when rolling out the software update: start with a small group, monitor for any critical issues, then expand to larger and larger groups. We expect to have everyone updated by the end of the week (and for clarity this time, weeks end on Sunday in Waterloo! :] )”
As noted in the notice, if there aren’t any devastating bugs in its current implementation of Marshmallow, BlackBerry hopes to have everyone who signed up for the beta on Marshmallow by the end of this weekend. If you signed up for the beta, make sure to visit the BlackBerry Beta Zone for instructions on how to prepare your device to receive the software update.
It’s still possible to sign up to take part in the beta, though it’s unclear if BlackBerry is actually still accepting additional testers; there’s currently a lengthy waiting list to get into the test. The test is scheduled to last four to eight weeks.
Did you sign up for the beta test? If so, and you’ve already gotten access to the test software, tell us about your experiences with it so far.
