Google recently announced that its search results will soon turn up TV listings when users look up shows. The announcement was made by Daniel Alegre, president of global partnerships at Google at the National Association of Broadcasters Show.
“What we’re seeing is that more and more, viewers are turning to their phones to find out what to watch, where to watch it and when it’s available — in fact, searches for TV shows and films on mobile have grown more than 55% in the past year alone,” said Alegre in a follow-up blog post.
The listings feature will show users the channel where they can find the program they’re looking for, along with what time it starts. The blog post did not specify when the feature will arrive or where it will be available.
Last year, Google launched a feature that displays options for viewing shows directly through streaming apps and sites, though that feature does not appear to be currently available in Canada.
MobileSyrup has reached out to Google for information on whether or not the new feature will be rolled out in Canada and the U.S. simultaneously.
