Two months after its launch, the Nextbit Robin has announced a slew of updates today, bringing Android 6.0.1. to the device and improving camera shoot time and sound quality. The Robin is a cloud-focused smartphone launched on Kickstarter by a dream team of Google Android and HTC veterans.
In its update Nextbit tuned the processor, camera and sound to provide better performances on all fronts, from sound quality to camera focus time, which reviewers had singled out as underwhelming.
So far reports say the new audio, improved with partner Arkamys, is more substantial and the speed of the camera when it comes to focusing and shooting is dramatically improved.
Nextbit also announced a collaboration with audio design company AIAIAI, which developed a custom set of headphones for the new device and is currently selling them at $225 USD, over half the price of the $399 USD phone.
With Android 6.0.1., the Robin gains the most recent security patch and expanded emoji set, among other things. It also shows the swiftness with which Nextbit is planning to adopt new Android updates, which reviewers suggested might be a pain point due to its innovative cloud back-up system.
The back-up system uses the Amazon cloud, reducing the storage space of items users aren’t frequently interacting with. For instance, the phone archives unused apps, turning them gray on-screen. Tapping the apps will bring them back by re-installing them with all the user data that was there when they last left it.
