Brandon police hand out 100 distracted driving tickets during 48-hour blitz

No matter how much emphasis police place on education, distracted driving is still a significant issue in Canada.

In Manitoba, the Brandon police have issued a new set of statistics and a genius meme regarding its recent distracted driving blitz. The City of Brandon has a population of just over 46,000 and the police conducted 12 four hour distracted driving awareness initiatives in April, issuing a total of 100 tickets for cellphone use in vehicles.

Manitoba increased the fine for those caught using their device while driving, with the penalty set at a $200 fine and five demerit points.

One of the craziest stories distracted driving stories to recently make news relates to a British Columbia woman who was pulled over twelve times for using her mobile device while driving, eventually causing her to be banned from behind behind the wheel by Richmond police.
