Soon you’ll be able to share Google Play purchases with up to 6 family members

Google Play Store

Though the release of the Google Play Store’s “Family Plan” has been rumoured for months, this is our first official confirmation from Google that it actually exists.

Family Library is a way for Android users to share Play Store purchases with trusted family members. In terms of video purchases, streams are limited to one device at a time, as well as a restriction on the total number of streams coming from the same library across multiple devices.

Play Store family plans are set to launch on July 2nd, though developers do have the option to opt out of the program. Once an app developer has opted-in to support Family Sharing, the process reportedly can’t be reversed.

Strangely, Google didn’t discuss its new Family Sharing plan during its I/O 2016 keynote, though Android Police is reporting that the company has been sending out emails to Android developers notifying them of its launch.

Apple has offered similar family sharing functionality in the iOS App Store since 2014.
