Kim Kardashian’s mobile game, called Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, is entirely built on often frustrating microtransactions, but Kiki, at least according to a recent interview, says she isn’t fond of in-app purchases.
In an interview with Recode’s Kara Swisher, Kardashian said that while she utilzies the e-commerce format prominently in her monumentally popular mobile game, she feels other developers are giving in-app purchases a bad name. She doesn’t mention what specific mobile games frustrate her, but does discuss a recent extended car ride with her and Kanye West’s daughter, North West, as an example.
“We were on a long car ride, and we were so annoyed that everything kept popping up and popping up that our daughter would cry every time the game wouldn’t finish playing,” said Kardashian. “She just wanted to seamlessly play.”
Kardashian says that in-app purchases need to pop up at the appropriate time and then she’s “totally fine.” with them.
“It kept popping up to the point where a two-year-old couldn’t play a game,” said Kardashian. “My daughter loves games.”
The entrepreneur and reality star says that the in-app purchases featured in Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, which has been the best selling game on the iOS App Store twice now, are designed to be unobtrusive.
Unlike many free-to-play games that feature in-app purchases, Hollywood’s microtransactions don’t limit play time and are instead focused on buying additional energy, clothes and money to pay for dates, all aspects of the game can be upgraded without real money with a little patience.
