Koodo has announced that customers in Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic provinces are now able to purchase wireless home phones.
How this differs from a regular home phone is that rather than a copper wiring, these phones run on Koodo’s wireless network. A wireless home phone plan costs $20 per month and includes unlimited Canada-wide calling, voice-mail, call-waiting, call display, conference calling and call forwarding for up to 2500 minutes. Additional international rates apply.
It’s important to note that while this offering is significant for Koodo, other carriers such as Rogers and Bell have offered wireless home phones for quite some time now. Rogers and Fido, for example, began selling wireless home phone plans for a monthly fee of $29.99 in 2013.
By simply inserting a SIM card, customers can connect their existing home phone handset to the Hub. The Hub can be plugged into any outlet where there’s reliable mobile reception.
Because the Hub can be connected to any existing handset, the Hub is sold independently. Each Hub costs about $40 CAD with an additional $10 for a SIM card. Customers who switch to a wireless home phone don’t require a technician to set up the system and get to keep their original phone number for a easy transition.
