Severed, the latest game from Drinkbox Studios, is coming to iOS later this year, the Toronto-based development house announced at E3 this week.
Originally released on the PlayStation Vita, Sony’s less than successful portable console, this past April, Severed came out to both critical and popular acclaim.
Featuring a combat system that’s a more mechanically interesting take on Fruit Ninja, Severed tasks the player with helping the game’s protagonist as she navigates a strange Aztec-inspired underworld in search of her family. The game’s mix of engaging gameplay, exploration, thoughtful story and unique art style — as well as an evocative soundtrack by Polaris Music Prize nominated Yamantaka // Sonic Titan — have made it one of my early favourites from 2016, a year already filled with exceptional video games.
Drinkbox Studios also announced Severed will make its way to the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS.
“We’re very pleased to be able to bring Severed to major touch-enabled platforms,” said Graham Smith, co-founder of Drinkbox Studios, in a statement issued to MobileSyrup. “The game’s recent release on the Vita was well-received by critics and fans alike, and we look forward to bringing the experience to Apple and Nintendo fans.”
