Minecraft is enormous.
The little mining indie game that launched just a few years ago has evolved into a cultural phenomenon that includes a dedicated convention, plush dolls, and cosplay costumes, making it one of the most culturally significant video game franchises since Super Mario Bros. and more recently, the Angry Birds series.
According to Mojang, the Warner Bros. produced Minecraft film that’s been rumoured to be in production for years, will be released in both IMAX and 3D, though details regarding the production are still scarce. The Minecraft movie’s official release date is May 24th, 2019.
Microsoft purchased Mojang, the studio behind Minecraft, from its founder Markus Notch Persson for $2.5 billion back in 2014.
