Canadian iPhone sales spike on eBay after Apple’s iPhone 7 announcement

It never, ever fails.

Every time Apple releases a new phone, there are hordes of fans around the world looking to either sell, upgrade, or trade in their old iPhones, and eBay is no exception, as iPhone activity has historically spiked in the time around Apple launch events.

According to a statement sent to MobileSyrup, when Apple releases a new phone, search queries for iPhones have gone up by approximately 22 percent. Furthermore, the number of iPhones purchased by Canadians increases by over 35 percent between August and October.

In addition, a new iPhone is purchased by Canadians on eBay every five minutes and there are currently more than 20 thousand iPhones available for sale.

This year however, eBay has launched a portal where interested merchants can sell their iPhones to interested buyers which will take each user through the process of creating their listing.

While every iPhone release has generated an uptick in eBay listings among Canadians, the iPhone 5 can be credited with a whopping 121 percent increase in listings between September and October.

The iPhone 6, on the other hand, generated the least amount of listings at 29 percent.
