Apple has pushed out the latest public beta for iOS 10.1 that includes the iPhone 7 Plus’ new depth of field feature, which was heavily touted by the Cupertino-based tech giant during its recent keynote presentation.
The new “Portrait” mode is designed to mimic the kind of shallow depth of field that can typically only be captured with a high-end DSLR and lens. For those who are unaware, depth of field refers to the ability to blur the background of a photo, an aesthetic commonly associated with the Japanese word “bokeh.”
It’s worth noting that this feature is only available in the iPhone 7 Plus because of its dual-camera functionality.
