Hockey season began yesterday, and with it came the NHL’s new app Arena.
The app is a consumer-focused tool that allows users to search events, receive notifications and promotions, buy tickets, enter venues with mobile tickets and order in-seat food delivery.
MLBAM (Major League Baseball Advanced Media), Arena’s creator, added, “Additional location awareness features and functionality to amplify, share and memorialize live events will be added and announced when available.”
Arena has 12 participating NHL teams and corresponding venues. Of those 12 there are three Canadian teams: the Ottawa Senators at the Canadian Tire Centre, the Vancouver Canucks at the Rogers Arena and the Winnipeg Jets at the MTS Centre.
The app is very similar to the MLB Ballpark app. Both apps are built by MLBAM, the digital and interactive company of the MLB that deals with online media and streaming. MLBAM and the NHL signed a deal in 2015 where MLBAM would take over its digital media initiatives.
This has resulted in redesigned online NHL experiences including the NHL website, NHL app and NHL Game Centre Live.
Along with the NHL’s digital redesign, the MLBAM is launching a Real Time Correspondent program for the 2016-2017 season where correspondents create video and photo content in the arena for NHL and club websites and social media.
The NHL’s Arena App is available on both the Play Store and iTunes.
