New code in Windows 10 suggests next major update will come out in March

Windows 10

Windows 10’s next major update, codenamed Redstone 2, will likely arrive sometime next March, according to new snippets of code discovered within the latest test version of Microsoft’s desktop and mobile operating system. The new code, discovered by Twitter user @WalkingCat, references a future build of the OS called ‘1703’.

1703 corresponds to the month and year Microsoft plans to release Redstone 2. In this case, the update will come out in and around March 2017.

Past major Windows 10 updates have used similar build numbers. For example, the build number for Windows 10’s Anniversary Update was 1607. It officially came out at the start of August. Similarly, the build number for Windows 10’s November update was 1511.

Microsoft is scheduled to host a Windows 10-focused event on October 26th in New York City. It’s likely the company will detail some of the major features set to come to Redstone 2 at that time. MobileSyrup will be at the event to report on all the latest news and announcements from Microsoft.
