Google’s new premium flagship device, the Pixel, is more popular than it was expected to be, according to the company.
After reports of shipping delays from many early Pixel buyers, the company stated to 9to5Google: “We’re thrilled to see the excitement for our new Pixel phones, and frankly pre-order demand has exceeded our expectations. We’re working to restock our inventory as soon as possible.”
Some buyers who put in pre-orders for the device are reportedly being told that their devices won’t ship until mid-November, and many are still listed as ‘pre-ordered or ‘pending’ in their Google Store order history, though the company initially estimated that deliveries would begin this week.
Google Store representatives contacted by 9to5Google, however, stated that the devices should still arrive within their estimated shipping windows, and to ignore the online page.
When the publication instead turned to Project Fi for support, they received a response more in-line with Google’s above statement. According to Project Fi support, shipping is running three weeks behind, which puts the delivery date for many devices somewhere in mid-November.
Though most of the documented issues appear to be from U.S. buyers, it seems likely the high pre-order demand will cause delays in other markets, including the States’ northern neighbour. MobileSyrup has reached out to Google to confirm whether it expects Pixel delays in Canada.
