Twitter will discontinue Vine, its short-form video sharing app, in “the coming months,” the company announced today.
The news comes after the social media company announced its poor Q3 results this morning. According to The Verge, Twitter has let go of a significant portion of the team that worked on Vine, though the company has yet to confirm the move.
Vine launched in 2013.
“To all the creators out there — thank you for taking a chance on this app back in the day. To the many team members over the years who made this what it was — thank you for your contributions. And of course, thank you to all of those who came to watch and laugh every day,” says the company in the blog post accompanying the announcement.
The company promises to share more information on the shutdown in the near future.
