It looks like Dell and Intel have a new vision for Microsoft’s Windows 10 ecosystem.
According to often reliable tipster Evan Blass, the two companies have started work on a project internally known as Dell Stack that focuses on a 6.4-inch tablet with the ability to power a desktop or tablet.
The concept behind the project is to combine all of your devices into one, with the power source being the mini-tablet, removing the need to move between multiple platforms or uploading files to the cloud. The device would be powered by Windows 10’s fascinating but underutilized Continuum feature, which allows Windows 10 Mobile devices to connect to a screen in order to offer a simplified version of Windows.
What makes Stack different from other devices that support Continuum is that it’s reportedly able to deliver a full desktop experience when docked thanks to its powerful x86 Kaby Lake Y-series processor. The device would also come equipped with either 4GB or 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of solid state storage, along with microSD expansion slot.
Build wise the Stack will reportedly measure in at just 9mm thick. It’s unclear when the project will come to fruition and at least so far there have been no official announcements from either Dell or Intel, though some reports indicate that these leaked Surface Phone images are actually of Dell’s Stack.
