Sony’s upgraded 4K-capable PlayStation 4, the PS4 Pro, is now available in Canada. Rather than a completely new generation of console, the PS4 Pro is being positioned as a mid-generation update to Sony’s gaming device.
It’s important to point out that while Sony claims the PS4 is capable of running games natively in 4K, right now, the more powerful console only upscales previously released titles and also offers enhanced visuals. Strangely, however, Sony has opted to not support physical UHD Blu-Rays with the PS4 Pro, unlike Sony’s competing 4K-capable Xbox One S.
Specs wise the device features a single-chip custom processor, an x86-64 AMD Jaguar with 8 Cores with a 4.20 terflops AMD Radeon graphics processor, 8GB of GDDR5 RAM, 1TB hard drive and an HDMI 4K out port.
Games that support additional fidelity features with the PS4 Pro include Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Battlefield 1, The Last of Us: Remastered and PlayStation VR titles like RIGS: Mechanize Combat League. Here’s a full list of the games that support Sony’s PS4 Pro.
The new upgraded console is priced at $499 CAD, significantly more expensive than the revamped $379 PS4.
