Netflix is venturing into the unpredictable world of reality television.
With plans to introduce 20 unscripted television shows on the platform in 2017, chief content officer Ted Sarandos tells Variety that the Sylvester Stallone-produced Ultimate Beastmaster will be in the lineup.
Netflix is slated to surpass 1000 hours of original content in 2017, which more than doubles the 2016 count of 500 hours. Sarandos goes on to say that Netflix will be focused on shows with an international theme.
Furthermore, the company plans to spend approximately $6 billion USD in 2017 on a profit-and-loss basis, which is up from $5 billion in 2016.
With the increased focus on original content, Netflix-produced shows are likely to take up a larger portion of that budget than ever before.
Netflix recently introduced offline viewing to its subscribers, which makes a wide variety of content available for viewing without an internet connection. This feature however, is only available on iOS and Android devices.
Netflix currently has 30 original series and plans to double that number by the end of 2017.
