Leak reveals upcoming Huawei Watch 2 with optional cellular connectivity

Huawei Watch 2

A new leak from eminent mobile tipster Evan Blass reveals Huawei is building a new Android Wear 2.0 offering called the Huawei Watch 2. According to a source “familiar with the company’s plans,” the company’s follow-up to the first-generation Huawei Watch will have a “sportier” look — a design choice that LG and Google also reportedly selected for the premium version of their upcoming Android Wear 2.0 watches.

The device measures 42-millimeters with a round 1.4-inch display and will be made available with a choice of stainless steel or leather straps, according to Blass’ source. One version of the watch will also feature a built-in SIM card to enable data usage and phone calls when not connected to Wi-Fi or to a smartphone via Bluetooth.

The device will reportedly make its debut at Mobile World Congress, where the first Huawei Watch launched in 2015. The first-generation watch, which featured a 400 x 400 pixel AMOLED display, a quad-core 1.2Ghz Snapdragon 400 processor and 4GB of storage, made it to Canada in September 2015 and had an initial sticker price of $499 CAD. The stainless steel version with black leather watch strap is now available for $389.99 through Newegg Canada.

Google is expected to unveil Android Wear 2.0 on February 9th, with the co-produced LG Watch Sport and Style going on sale in the U.S. the next day.
