Along with Android, iOS, PC and Mac, with a little help from 8Bitdo’s Wireless Retro Receiver adapter, the Nintendo Switch’s Joy-cons also work with the NES Classic Edition.
The $17 USD (about $22 CAD) adapter, which has been available since mid-December, allows any Bluetooth gamepad to work with the NES Classic. Following the release of a recent firmware update, the Switch’s Joy-con controllers now work with the NES Classic as well.
It’s worth noting that the tiny Joy-cons probably aren’t the best way to play most 8-bit NES titles, though they are a little more comfortable than the NES’ classic boxy controllers. Since the Receiver allows any Bluetooth controllers to be used with the Classic, it also makes the console compatible with the superb Nintendo Switch Pro controller.
You can find 8Bitdo’s wireless retro receiver on the retro accessory manufacturer’s website. Good luck, however, actually finding the NES Classic. It’s been months since the console’s initial release and it’s still difficult to hunt down the system.
8Bitdo also sells a NES-like NES30 controller with the the wireless adapter bundle, for $39.99 USD ($52 CAD).
