Following in the footsteps of Google Maps, Facebook has revealed a location-sharing feature that is now rolling out globally on both iOS and Android.
Live Location allows users to send their location to a friend or group of friends by tapping the ‘Location’ icon or ‘More’ icon then selecting ‘Location.’ A map of their current location will then show up along with the option to tap a blue bar to share your coordinates for 60 minutes. To stop sharing their location, user can just tap ‘Stop Sharing.’
“We’ve been testing this for a little while,” states the company in a blog post, “and people tell us that Live Location is helpful when trying to coordinate with friends, telling people how close you are when you’re on your way to an appointment, or even sharing where you are with your roommate when you’re on your way home at night.”
On iOS, the social media platform mentions that users are able to see an estimate of how long it would take to get to others’ locations by car. Additionally, the old option of sharing a static option on a map is still available, users just have to tap the red pin in the upper right hand corner after entering the Location feature.
