CUE is a Canadian-made smart home door handle that is useful for the everyday bathroom goer. The device is an interior door handle that allows bathroom users to notify others in the vicinity when it’s ‘safe’ to enter the bathroom.
Cory Mahoney, founder of CUE, was ‘inspired’ to make the handle by his mother. Mahoney’s mother, diagnosed with both Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, felt uncomfortable using the washroom. Mahoney wanted a way to relieve his mother’s stress so he created the CUE.
CUE advertises three simple steps to get the privacy you need.
- 1. Push the lock button
- 2. Use the washroom
- 3. Push the timer button
The first two steps are essential when using any standard door handle. CUE, however, also features a lock icon that will illuminate so everybody in the vicinity knows the bathroom is in use.
CUE’s timer button is what really sets it apart as it allows for more privacy than a standard door handle. After pushing the timer button, which is shaped like an hourglass, the bathroom icon will light up.
The icon will go from red (for stop), yellow (for caution) and green (for coast is clear) in a five-minute period notifying others that someone had recently used the bathroom. CUE’s timer icon gives its user more privacy and removes any form of embarrassment.
The smart door handle also features, three easy step installation, Bluetooth connection to washroom fans, interchangeable face plates and can fit all standard doorknob holes.
CUE will donate 10 per cent of all its proceeds to Chive Charities. The company’s Kickstarter currently has 17 backers with 54 days to go and pledged a goal of $60,000 CAD.
