Ontario’s 2017 budget was detailed on Thursday, with the government announcing that a number of services will become available online and on mobile starting this year.
First off, drivers will be able to provide proof of insurance ‘pink slips’ through their mobile phones, doing away with the need for the current paper insurance company-issued ‘pink slips.’
As a result, people won’t need to replace a paper copy of their proof of insurance each time they renew their auto insurance policies.
The government says this will make the process easier and more cost-efficient, with insurers being required to offer a discount to policyholders who opt to receive documents electronically.
Other upcoming changes include:
- A pre-existing online referral system that connects patients to specialists will be expanded to five regions
- “Yellow card” immunization records for youth will be moved online for parental and guardian use
- Post-seconday students will be given free online access to over 5,000 eLearning courses on
- LinkedInLynda to help grow their professional network
- Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) applications will be able to be submitted online
- The process to renew of drivers’ licenses and update addresses online will be simplified
- Public psychotherapy for mental health issues will be available online
