Facebook is updating its Messenger app this week with a new home screen. The new layout is intended to make it easier for users to connect to people and businesses.
All of Messenger’s core features remain intact, including the recently added bot support, but are now organized a bit differently.
- Now, users will find the following at the top of the Messenger home screen:
New tabs for Messages - Currently active users, who can be searched by tapping the ‘Active’ tab and identified with a green dot
- Favourite Groups highlighted
These tabs can be tapped or swiped for quick navigation.
Also new is a bar at the bottom of Messenger for ‘Home,’ ‘Calls,’ the ‘Camera’ button, ‘People’ and ‘Games.’ A red dot, located next to Calls, will notify users of new activity in these sections, such as a new and unread message in Messages.
Facebook has previously only been testing the new Messenger home screen in countries across the world.
Last month, it was revealed that Messenger has 1.2 billion worldwide users. The new update will roll out worldwide this week on both iOS and Android this week.
