The upcoming OnePlus 5 smartphone will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor. The decision was made to ensure “smooth, powerful, and efficient performance,” company CEO Pete Lau wrote in a forum post.
Lau noted that one key focus for the phone was to improve touch latency, which was addressed using a special high-speed camera to track screen movements and measure input speeds. This led to faster-responding apps.
OnePlus engineers also added a feature to the OxygenOS that manages and optimizes apps depending on their usage. Apps that owners use most often are made to be ready to go as soon as the OnePlus 5 is turned on, whereas infrequently used apps are deprioritized and kept from affecting overall performance.
Recently, there were reports that the OnePlus 5 surpasses the speed of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Sony Xperia XZ Premium. The four colours that the OnePlus 5 will be offered in have also been revealed.
A specific Canadian release date has not yet been announced, but the phone is set to come this summer.
