Battery life is a problem that haunts every single smartphone user almost every single day, and Qualcomm has announced yet another solution to this problem.
Qualcomm — the company whose Snapdragon mobile processors are found in almost every single Android phone on the market — hopes that it can improve on the Quick Charge platform with its latest technology: Quick Charge 4+.
According to the company, Quick Charge 4+ is “up to 30 percent more efficient,” can charge phones “up to 15 percent faster” and should be able to keep phones “up to three degrees Celsius cooler” while charging.
Qualcomm first announced Quick Charge 4 alongside the Snapdragon 835. Unlike the company’s previous updates to the Quick Charge platform, Quick Charge 4+ is more of a minor step forward.
The first device to feature Quick Charge 4+ is the ZTE nubia Z17, which ZTE announced earlier today. Qualcomm tells MobileSyrup that not all future Snapdragon 835 devices will feature Quick Charge 4+, however. According to the company, manufacturers will have to implement some additional features to feature Quick Charge 4+.
“Quick Charge 4+ continues the fast charging innovation, providing design flexibility for manufacturers, and a diverse ecosystem of certified products for consumers,” said Geoff Gordon, staff manager of product marketing for Qualcomm, in a media release.
Update 01/06/17: This post previously stated that all future Snapdragon 835 devices will feature Quick Charge 4+, but Qualcomm tells MobileSyrup that it will depend on the manufacturer to add some additional features. The post has been updated to reflect that fact.
