If you’re looking for more people to follow on social media, Twitter has an answer for you.
The company has compiled a list of the top 40 Canadian executives who are “are driving thought leadership, influence, and impact by their presence on Twitter,” and are recommended to be followed as a result.
Specifically, the list is made up of “executives who use Twitter regularly to share company updates and industry news, engage with customers, employees and partners and Like, Retweet and Reply to top Twitter content,” Rory Capern, managing director at Twitter Canada, wrote in a blog post.
Notably, there were a handful of personnel from telecommunications companies that made the list, including Josh Blair, executive vice-president of health at TELUS (@josh_a_blair), John Chen, CEO of BlackBerry (@JohnChen), Dale Hooper, chief brand officer at Rogers (@DaleHooper) and Randy Lennox, president of Bell Media (@randylennox7117).
Outside of telecoms, there were a number of other tech-related executives, including:
- Dino Trevisani, President and GM, IBM Canada (@DinoTrevisani)
- Mark Childs, CMO of Samsung Canada (@MarkInspired)
- Janet Kennedy, president and CEO of Microsoft Canada (@JKennedyMSFT)
- Kevin Peesker, president of Dell Canada (@KevinAtDell)
- Jade Raymond, group general manager – vice-president of Visceral, Motive Studios and Star Wars, Electronic Arts (@ibjade)
- Sam Sebastian, president of Google Canada (@samsebastian)
Beyond that, figures that made the list came from restaurant chains, sports teams and entertainment companies, among other places.
The release of the list follows a column Capern wrote in The Globe and Mail, in which he said companies need to be more active on Twitter, as it plays a key role in doing better business overall. Since then, he says he’s received an outpour of messages from Canadians that have identified many company figures who have shown a strong engagement on the social media platform.
“We created this list in response to the growing number of top Canadian executives we’ve seen using Twitter on a regular basis,” Capern told MobileSyrup in an e-mail. “Even at 40, there were hundreds of other names we easily could have included on the list and, overall we’re impressed by the range of content and communication we’re seeing on Twitter coming from the Canadian C-Suite. We look forward to more top Canadian executives joining the conversation in the months to come.”
