HMD Global has announced its latest Nokia 7 handset, following the rapid-fire recent debuts of the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6 and Nokia 8.
The Nokia 7 features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset with 4GB or 6GB of RAM depending on model and 64GB of storage, expandable by MicroSD up to 128GB.
As for cameras, the smartphone has a rear 16-megapixel Zeiss lens, f/1.8 aperture, 80-degree wide-angle camera. On the front, the shooter is 5-megapixel with an f/2.0 aperture and 84-degree wide-angle camera.
One of the main selling points of the Nokia 7 is the ‘Dual-Sight’ mode camera feature, which first debuted with the Nokia 8. The mode allows the phone to capture photos and videos from the front and back of the camera simultaneously and combines them into a single frame, known as a ‘bothie.’
Like many smartphone features, it’s far from completely unique. Samsung pushed out a similar feature for the Galaxy S4, and there are apps — like Frontback — that achieve the same effect.
The device runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, with Nokia promising and Oreo update for the device in the future and monthly security updates.
It also features a 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080 pixel IPS LCD display with Gorilla Glass 3, the same glass coating that covers the rear of the device. A fingerprint sensor is located on the rear of the device. Additionally the smartphone has a headphone jack tucked into its aluminum frame.
Powering the Nokia 7 is a 3,000mAh battery, which charges via USB Type-C.
The Nokia 7 will be available in China from October 24th beginning at CNY 2,499 (about $470 CAD), but there’s no information regardiong availability in other markets yet. The phone is not likely to come to Canada in an official capacity, but those interested will be able to explore online purchasing options.
