American e-commerce giant Amazon has announced that it will open a second office in Vancouver by 2020.
The new space will allow Amazon to double its existing workforce in British Columbia’s most populated city, from roughly 1,000 to roughly 2,000.
Amazon is excited to continue growing our workforce throughout Canada,” said Alexandre Gagnon, vice president of Amazon Canada and Mexico, in a November 3rd, 2017 media release.
The company currently has 5,000 full-time employees across Canada, “spanning site in British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec,” according to the same release.
It’s important to note that this announcement should not be taken as an indicator about Vancouver’s bid for HQ2, Amazon’s second North American headquarters.
